The Home Check is here to help make the process of buying a home or property as easy and stress-free as possible. We go above and beyond during the inspection and reporting process to give you all of the information you could possibly need.   • How long has your company been in business?

    We have been inspecting homes since 1991.

  • How many inspectors do you have?

    We have two highly trained and experienced inspectors, Tom and Dave.

  • What are your inspectors’ qualifications?

    Both Tom and Dave have come through the Carson Dunlop world of training – in class and as inspectors and trainers for the company.


    Tom is a Registered Home Inspector with the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors. Both Tom and Dave are committed to keeping up with industry requirements through regular training and Home Inspector conferences. This is their full time career. All day. Everyday.


    Tom and Dave are known for being clear and friendly communicators. 

  • What do you look at?

    We break a house down into major systems. These include the roof, exterior, structure, electrical, heating, cooling, plumbing, insulation and interior. Thousands of items are inspected during an inspection.

  • Do you have those cool cameras you see on HGTV?

    Yes! We have the latest thermal imaging cameras along with all of the other necessary tools to get the job done.

  • How long does it take?

    A typical inspection (is there such thing?) takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete. The report is created off site and emailed to you within 12 hours.

  • Can I follow along?

    Please do! We like buyers to follow us through the process. You will get a lot more out of the inspection if you hear and see the inspector as he moves through the home.

  • How much does an inspection cost?

    Our fees start at less than $300 (high rise condominium), and are based on the size, age and location of the home. For most homes, the fee will range from $429 to $549.

  • What do I get for the fee?

    1. An incredible education on the house you have decided to purchase. This includes knowing what to expect and when major systems will need to be replaced.
    2. A detailed report including pictures, illustrations, timeframes and cost estimates (see below for more info).
    3. A direct line to your inspector to answer any questions for as long as you own the home. That’s huge!

  • What kind of report do you provide?

    HORIZON is a comprehensive web-based reporting system that produces an exceptional, easy-to-read report. This system was created by Carson Dunlop and is used by home inspectors across North America. The report includes not only a description of the home but also documents our observations and recommendations, including cost estimates for repairs where appropriate. The report includes colour illustrations and photographs, as well as links to relevant reference materials.
